Alcove is a personal ebook library for Mac and iPad, with an iPhone version coming later — one place for all your DRM-free ebooks, wherever you bought them. We're looking for early testers: a small, invite-only Alpha is running on TestFlight now, and a Beta comes later.
Get early access through TestFlight. Try it with your real ebook collection — import EPUB, PDF, MOBI and AZW3 files, rate and tag your books, and sync between your Mac and iPad. There's no iPhone app to test yet — that comes with 1.0. The Alpha is rough and has no built-in reader yet; if you'd rather wait for the Beta, the sign-up form lets you choose. Requires macOS 15.7 or iPadOS 18.4 or later.
Request Early Access →Tell us which features matter most. We read every request. Your votes directly influence the roadmap — especially features with the most demand from real users.
Visit the Feedback Board →Alpha — features and fixes arrive with each new TestFlight build.
Drag files onto the library, use Import, or pick from iCloud Drive or the Files app. Alcove makes its own copy — your originals are never touched. On the Mac, you can also import a whole Calibre library, with its series, tags and covers.
Tags, ratings (0–5 stars), reading status and series. Filter and sort by any of them. Edit metadata directly in the detail panel — changes save as you make them, no forms, no save buttons.
iCloud sync keeps your Mac and iPad libraries together. Ratings, tags, reading status and covers follow you — no manual export or import — and each library can download books on demand or keep them all on the device.
Alcove is a library manager, not a reader (yet). Open any book in the reader you prefer — Apple Books, Marvin, or any other app that handles the format. On the Mac you can set a default app for EPUB and for PDF.
